"I felt that the course was very professional and would
recommend it to all those that think they would like to be a
guide, or even those that would like to improve on their fishing
skills in general"
- Ronnie Rees - Montana
The Montana Fly Fishing Guide School takes place on some of the greatest trout streams in the world such as the Yellowstone and Madison rivers, and the famous Depuy's Spring Creek located in Paradise valley. During the week, we spend 2 days in the classroom covering such topics as teaching strategies, fishing techniques, aquatic entomology, knot tying and instruction, and marketing skills to enhance repeat business and referrals. We then move outside and spend 5 full days on the water improving our fishing techniques, learning to row a drift boat, and exploring the finer points of guiding. Fly rods for the course will be provided by the R.L. Winston Rod Company. To keep you on your toes, roll play scenarios based on real guiding situations are use throughout the course.
Here at the Montana
Fly Fishing Guide School, we provide personal and professional instruction from fully licensed guides and outfitters in Montana. Upon your completion of the course, job placement assistance will be provided in the form of reference letters and referrals to outfitters looking for guides. We do not guarantee that you will get a job after the course, but we will do our best to help you in any way possible. So far, 90% of our graduates have found jobs in the guiding industry.
